Parts of the Mechanical Engineering Intranet are only accessible from inside UCL. Other parts are password protected and can be accessed using your Departmental MECHENG computer account's username and password.

If you need to access this site from outside UCL, it is suggested that you use UCL's WTS or VPN service to do so - by logging onto WTS, and browsing the Intranet from there; or by using the VPN to 'land' inside UCL.

Details of WTS & VPN are available via the UCL IS website. (See the quick links on right of the page).

Contacting Support

Please follow these instructions ( http://intranet.meng.ucl.ac.uk/support.html ) when contacting Support

This is a cut-down version of the information at http://intranet1.meng.ucl.ac.uk/getting_help/index.html, intended to be visible outside UCL.

The information at http://intranet1.meng.ucl.ac.uk/getting_help/index.html takes precedence.

  • Various kinds of assistance are available by e-mailing Mech Eng IT Support
  • You must email from your UCL email address.
    • If you can't e-mail from your UCL address, you should contact the IS ServiceDesk to get this sorted.
    • Mech Eng IT Support will not deal with staff or student e-mail addresses external to UCL, nor cc external addresses (eg Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)
  • It is necessary to be able to validate who you are, and that you are a member of the Department. The quickest and easiest way for this to be done, is for you to CC your Mech Eng email address in all correspondence.
    • This address will be [your Mech Eng username]@meng.ucl.ac.uk. eg smith_j@meng.ucl.ac.uk .
    • If you are having difficulties doing this, then:
      • Take your UPI - on your ID card, eg valer46 .
      • Construct an email address upi_[your upi]@meng.ucl.ac.uk eg upi_valer46@meng.ucl.ac.uk .
      • CC this address in your mail.
    • Or:
      • Take your UCL username - that you use to log in to UCL systems, eg ucemnob .
      • Construct an email address uun_[your UCL usernamr]@meng.ucl.ac.uk eg uun_ucemnob@meng.ucl.ac.uk .
      • CC this address in your mail.
      • You must CC your Mech Eng email address in all subsequent correspondence, or you will be back in this process again
  • You should fill in the 'subject field' with something relevant that will help distinguish your mail from the many other mails Support receives.
  • We aim to respond to e-mails within one working day. Simple requests, at periods of low demand, may be completed significantly faster. Incomplete requests; complicated requests; or requests in periods of high demand, may all take longer to complete.
  • Tasks are queued and prioritised. Please do not attempt to jump the queue by phoning or visiting without prior arrangement.
  • We are happy to arrange to meet to discuss requirements - but it must be by prior arrangement. No-one is available to deal with unexpected callers.

  • The e-mail address for Support is support@meng.ucl.ac.uk
  • If you are experiencing problems that you can not solve, your supervisor or manager should be able to facilitate things for you.
